Live at the Forge | The Kate Luxmoore Group ft Pritam Singh

Live at the Forge | Kate Luxmoore EV.jpg

A clarinetist with a big english sound. Kate Luxmoore has been interpreting what she terms the "English Songbook" through a fusion of jazz, urban grooves and African rhythms, marrying together the harmonies and melodies of English folk with the rolling, poly-rhythms of yoruba grooves to create an upbeat, jazz infused set that also includes original compositions.

Kate grew up in the West Country  but her travels and musical exploration have taken her far and wide – through classical, jazz, and world music before bringing her back to her roots. The English Songbook Revisited gives voice to her unique take on English folk tunes. Music with a sense of Englishness at its heart but with a shared world vision.

‘We used to be known as ‘the singing English’, because everyone sang as they worked - weaving cloth or spinning wool, or working the land,’ says Kate.  All that wonderful sound was drowned out by the noise of factories and the arrival of mechanisation in the early 1800’s. English musical heritage was largely ignored." (An excerpt of an interview with Helen Frame.)
